Dr Jerzy Żuchowski from the Department of Biochemistry and Crop Quality visited the Institute for Plant Protection (CNR) in Bari, Italy (21 November – 17 December 2011).

During his stay, he became acquainted with the basics of research work with plant pathogenic nematodes. He got to know methods of isolation of nematodes from plant roots, and isolation of nematode cysts and egg masses from soil and roots. He also participated in tests of nematicidal activity of lentil (Lens culinaris) and Knautia arvensis extracts, performed on different species of phytopathogenic nematodes.

The cooperation with colleagues from the Institute for Plant Protection was very good and will be continued, further experiments on the plant extracts are planned.
