Dr Magdalena Borzęcka-Walker, dr Jerzy Kozyra and dr Alina Syp from the Department of Agrometeorology and Applied Informatics have participated in the international meeting in Berlin, Germany (15 - 16 October 2012). The keynote lectures by Tim Benton (Global Food Security and University of Leeds) and Tim Carter (Finnish Environment Institute – SYKE) set the background by describing the need for assessing future impacts on food security and how to deal with the uncertainty associated with data, models, and projections. Attending a meeting it gave us an opportunity to expand our knowledge about crop and trade modelling. Farm level modelling is a strong tool to improve organization of farms, test the economic viability of new technologies and ensure acceptance of new agro-environmental programs. To improve the quality of this type of models, a review of existing tools and an investigation of the requirements of stakeholder are needed. |
