The main objective of the PROFICIENCY project is to strengthen IUNG’s excellence, through technological, human and partnership capacities fostering. IUNG ambitions is to adopt a totally integrated interdisciplinary approach around four main research areas related to agriculture and defined as priorities by the Institute: 1) Land Use, 2) Soil Quality, 3) Production Systems and Techniques, and 4) Plant Products Quality and Safety.

PROFICIENCY is expected to foster the integration of IUNG within the European Research Area (ERA), by increasing its leadership among European research institutions, providing high level data basis and their interpretation and influencing local as well as EU politics in the field of soil and plant products quality and safety under climate changes. In order to reach such objectives, IUNG will collaborate very closely with many European research institutions, through two-way mobility trainings, exchange of scientists and high-quality dissemination events such as workshop and conferences.

The main objectives of PROFICIENCY are:
- update and improve the research equipment and organisation in the IUNG;
- increase of scientific excellence in soil, food and feed safety and quality under climate changes;
- become an Institute of prior interest for Polish end-users and fully integrated with the European Research Area.

More specifically, the PROFICIENCY project targets the following scientific and technical objectives:

• Improvement of the competence in Poland in the production of food and feedstuff of high quality and safety;
• Improvement of risk assessment methodologies on soil and food safety issues, providing public authorities with prompt, objective, and unbiased information;
• Successful implementation a brand new approach of interdisciplinary research performance, by provoking a continuous and deep cooperation between the Institute departments, gathered around specified priority research areas;
• Development of national and international cooperation with high quality research institutions;
• Organisation of courses, training days, seminars, events for agricultural producers, governmental officials, researchers, politicians, enabling IUNG to become a considerable centre for professional traineeship and for lifelong learning;
• Increase of the IUNG’s participation in EU collaborative research projects.
